West Hawaii’s Coastline Reopens to Aquarium Fish Collection After Court Ruling

In a decisive ruling, the Hawaii Supreme Court ruled 4-1 to allow commercial aquarium fish collection to resume along the West Hawaii shoreline. This area, known as the West Hawaii Regional Fishery Management Area, had been at the center of a legal battle over the environmental effects of the aquarium fish trade.
California and Other States Take Action to Prevent Spread of the American Bullfrog

In December 2023, the California Fish and Game Commission voted to ban the importation and sale of the American bullfrog. The bullfrog, which is native to the eastern United States, is farmed commercially in China, Brazil, and other countries and exported around the world for food.
On November 14, the United States Senate passed the “Frank LoBiondo Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2018” by almost unanimous vote. The bill will now move to the House of Representatives for reconciliation, where it is expected to pass.
