The National Sea Grant Law Center is excited to welcome Summer Research Associate Jordan Young, a 2L at Vermont Law and Graduate School. Jordan will take part in the Community Engaged Legal Internship Program, working with NSGLC and our project partner, Oregon Sea Grant. Get to know Jordan through his answers to a few questions below.
1. Where are you from?
I’m from Tupper Lake, New York. Nestled in the Adirondack Mountains.
2. What was your first job?
I worked at a small redemption center in Tupper Lake that also sold fishing supplies, craft beer, and firewood.
3. Who inspires you?
My family. My grandfather was one of the most resilient people I’ve ever known. He had the ability to turn any negative situation into a positive one. My parents, through their hard work, also inspire me to be the best person I can be.
4. What made you consider a career in law?
Growing up, I watched my father serve our community as a Town Justice. Inspired by him, I took a position as a Legal Assistant after graduating from college. I saw how legal advocacy can have such a positive impact on local communities. It inspired me to pursue a career in law so I can give back to my community.
5. What are you most excited about doing this summer?
I’m excited to continue developing my legal writing skills and contribute to The SandBar! I’m also looking forward to assisting the Oregon Sea Grant with their ongoing research!
6. Where’s your favorite beach?
My favorite beach is in the Adirondacks. It’s Ampersand Beach, located on Middle Saranac and adjacent to Ampersand Mountain. Growing up, I would hike the mountain with my sister or friends, and then spend the rest of the day relaxing on the beach.
7. What do you do in your free time?
I try to do a little bit of everything depending on the weather. I enjoy reading, birdwatching, golfing, fishing, camping, skiing, hiking, cooking, or playing video games.
8. Do you have any hidden talents? What are they?
I’m great at predicting the endings of movies or shows within the first 20 minutes. I also like to think I've perfected the art of cooking scrambled eggs.
