The National Sea Grant Law Center

Projects

  • Enhancing Policy Integration for Contaminants of Emerging Concern (CEC) in the Great Lakes and Southeast Regions
  • Hydrilla

In 2024, the National Sea Grant Law Center and project partner the South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium received funding from the National Sea Grant College Program to enhance the integration of scientific research into state policy through an innovative research-to-application partnership grant program. This project is aimed at enhancing research translation into state policy within the Great Lakes and Southeast regions.

  • Supported CEC Research Projects

  • In October 2023, the South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium administered a research competition, with a focus on the influence of climate change on CECs in the Southeastern U.S. Four projects were initially selected for funding. See, Building a Regional Network to Study the Influence of Climate Change on Contaminants of Emerging Concern.

Through this project, the South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium is able to support two additional projects that were submitted to the competitive research competition.

  • CEC Research-to-Application Grant Program

The National Sea Grant Law Center is currently developing a funding opportunity for interdisciplinary teams of researchers and policymakers. The objective of the funding opportunity is to facilitate the translation of research findings on CECs into actionable state policies. This aspect of the project will be guided by an Advisory Committee composed of experts from state agencies, academic institutions, non-governmental organizations, and community groups. The request for proposals is anticipated to be released in late 2025.
