Our Work

Environmental Literacy and Workforce Development

Today’s workforce must have a range of scientific, technical and communication skills to effectively address the daunting environmental challenges confronting our nation. In addition, all citizens should have a fundamental understanding of the systems of the natural world, the relationships and interactions between the living and non-living environment and the ability to understand and utilize scientific evidence to make informed decisions regarding environmental issues. The National Sea Grant Law Center assists the National Sea Grant College Program in pursuing its environmental literacy and workforce development goals by sponsoring continuing legal education programs and other professional workshops and symposiums and training law students in the field of ocean and coastal law.

Sea Grant Law and Policy Journal Symposiums

Each spring, the National Sea Grant Law Center sponsors a symposium and invite papers from academics and practitioners for publication in June. The fall issue, published in December, features law student articles submitted in response to a yearly request for papers. The Journal’s editorial board and outside experts, as needed, review all articles prior to publication.
